Online training for Medical Biller?
I would like to take an online course for Medical Billing but i don’t want to get caught in a scam. I have infor from Penn Foster but I am not sure about them. Has anyone gotten online training in thie field that actually got hired somewhere?
I would like to be able to work for a Medical Billing Company or Doctors office when I am done not at home on my own,
Doing the actual billing is easy to learn. However, in order to make any money as a medical biller, you have to convince doctors to send their billing through you to the Insurance company clearinghouses. You might have to buy a license from the clearinghouses or buy the software to hook up to their systems. All in all, if you don’t already know half a dozen doctors who do a lot of insurance billing that will send their business through you, you are not going to make any money at it after going through all the trouble of learning how to enter the right billing data in your computer.
Of course, it can be done. But, find out info about the clearinghouses first so you know what your up-front investment will have to be. Also, call the Office Manager of a few doctors in the area to see if they already send their billing out and what they are paying. You may be able to do it cheaper, but you have a lot of competition already.
